60 Gubbuteh Road, Little Bay, NSW

The architectural design of this family house is based on a careful analysis of the former Prince Henry Hospital site, its context and on an appreciation of the particular landscape and climatic conditions of Little Bay.

The design responds to the wedge shape of the lot and steps down the contours as two pavilions focused on a two storey ‘outdoor room’. There is a predominant horizontal expression with a strong sandstone base and cantilevered balcony elements. Roof forms are expressed as a simple skillions with a connecting lower roof.

The selection of materials and colours is based on rock/sand colours of the site together with the sea blue/greens. Masonry walls are relieved by lightweight timber cladding.

The house is orientated to maximise the spectacular views over The Coast Golf Course and Little Bay to the Pacific Ocean.
