Urban design review to inform planning controls for seven local centres in Canterbury Bankstown LGA

Canterbury Bankstown Local Centres
Urban Design Review

We were engaged by Canterbury Bankstown Council to undertake an urban design review of built form controls for seven local centres in the LGA including Revesby, Padstow, Panania, East Hills, Birrong, Greenacre and Yagoona. The work was to inform the preparation of the Canterbury Bankstown Draft Consolidated DCP.

The project involved:

  • undertaking site and local character analysis;
  • recommending building envelope controls (setbacks) to support new LEP height and FSR controls;
  • architectural design controls to improve the function and visual appearance of new development in local centres;
  • site-specific controls for a catalyst site at Marco Avenue, Revesby; and
  • participating in a series of Council officer workshops.

For each local centre, a series of GIS maps were prepared including existing conditions, building height and FSR, and proposed setback controls. To support the recommended design controls, LFA prepared illustrative sketches, 3D modelling and provided a series of photographic examples demonstrating best practice urban design.

Council adopted the Draft Consolidated DCP in May 2021, which will come into effect upon completion of the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure’s review of the Draft Consolidated LEP.
