Congratulations to all the winners and highly commended entrants in the Public Space Ideas Competition! The competition was finalised with the online awards ceremony held last night, showcasing an explosion of creative energy and a great palette of ideas (from over 500 entries) for the Greater Sydney Parklands Authority to consider.
We were up for the challenge and submitted an entry with a focus on reimagining the Cahill Expressway (along with several other participants) and its alienating and oppressive effect on Sydney’s premier harbour gateway.
“Remaking the Cahill” proposed a journey from Bennelong headland to Barrangaroo headland along a new 1.4ha activated green corridor, eliminating cars and providing a universally accessible public open space for residents, workers and visitors to enjoy. No longer a hated expressway but enhanced as an expression of city renewal as a greenway.
